My ASUS M2N8AMPlus motherboard only supports CPUs (comfortably) up to version 945. This is version 980. I will need to use an MA 97 motherboard with DDR3 RAM if I want to run this chip at it's full potential. Chip itself works fine and the extra heatsink paste that came with it came in handy. The M2N8AMPlus did run the chip, after giving me a slap on the wrists and loading default values only... had to hit F1 every time I booted up the machine... Gave up and bought a Ryzen.... works great... will put this 980 chip on the market again soon...

Nice, complete packaging - as good as it gets. A very cost effective upgrade to my existing platform - and with faster memory + SSD drive it really spanks. It is very important to first verify that your specific equipment, firmware and cooling setup will properly accept any proposed CPU upgrade. This chip arrived totally clean and well protected in the original packaging.

Upgraded from a 940 to a 980, installation was seamless, only additional requirement was upgrading the Asus bios on my motherboard to the latest iteration. The processor makes a noticeable jump in response. Since I am not a gamer, this is a nice but do-able modification. I could have put in an X6 1100 chip, but again I am not a gamer, (the cost for the X6 1100 was really not worth the price difference) and I am running an older Asus M4A78 Pro with a AM2+/AM3 socket.
