The Garmin Rino 520 is a very good unit. However, there is one major problem with the current replacement Lithium Batteries being sold. Here's the problem, Garmin does mention that the battery can not be recharged on the regular Rino 520 and 530 units. The replacement battery will operate both units but do to a change in the recharging battery circuit that used in the Rino 520HCX and 530HCX units this is why these battery will not recharge on the regular Rino 520 and 530 units and there recharging circuits are different. Garmin suggests to purchase an Alkaline Battery and operate the unit with AA Batteries.

I bought the Garmin Rino 520 a few weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive hand held GPS. The GPS size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 10 hours. My only complaint is that it takes a little while to receive signals from satilites. I use this in extreme weather and terain and have had no problems at all!
Product is definitely very good, the only reason of my "good" is that there is more advanced option - newer Rino 520HCx. I own both and 520HCx preferable due to the _much_ higher sensitivity of the GPS receiver its quick start and approximately 3 times quicker map redrawing. Backlit is also brighter. That is why i would highly recommend Rino 520HCx. Rino 520 costs its money in case it is 1.5 times cheaper than the newer model.
Powerful 5 watts radio, reliable and accurate GPS. Useful with other user with the same system.
