A great improvement over the old ESP6 model with many of the old model's flaws eliminated in this newer BES250 model while keeping its familiar layout. This machine is great for beginners who are learning to use espresso machines, due to having almost no automated features unlike its more expensive cousins. This machine works as advertised, making great coffee especially with Cappuccinos and Lattes. It is also rewarding for beginners as they will be able to taste the improvement as their technique improves with practice. Straight out of the box, the machine comes with all the equipment you need, including a stainless steel milk jug and a plastic tamper/scoop tool. The water tank capacity is generous and the heat up times are quite short. The controls are very simple and easy, and the machine has low maintenance requirements. It comes included with cleaning tools that is stored out of sight in the machine. Its stylish stainless steel aesthetics suits any domestic kitchen environment. The downside is the auto-purge function when using the steam wand. The Auto-purge function itself works great to ensure the water temperature is ideal for brewing, but the 5 second delay before it kicks in is too short in most cases. After using the steam wand to steam the milk, it is common practice to turn it off inside the milk jug, then turn it on again outside the jug to push out any residual milk. But the auto-purge interrupts this procedure if you're too slow, resulting in either the wand spraying steam for only a couple seconds before stopping, or the wand stops operating momentarily as it waits for the thermoblock to heat up again after the auto-purge have cooled it down. There's even cases where the machine is "confused" between operating the steam wand or starting the auto-purge procedure, taking up to a minute to make the decision (if this happens to you, turning off the steam wand will stop its confusion immediately). However, this is merely an inconvenience that wastes extra seconds of time, and this does not negatively affect its operation. With practice, you can easily adapt to this machine's behaviour. Also, the tamper included with this machine has the handle placed diagonally sideways instead of perpendicular to the tamper's surface (due to it being joined with the scoop as well), making it extremely difficult to apply enough pressure and to keep the tamped coffee's surface level with the filter. It's recommended to buy a separate tamper for this machine, especially for the more experienced baristas. The machine's pump is also a little loud and generates plenty of vibrations, even making the espresso glasses slowly move around on the tray, but this is expected in this price range. The vibrations are at least less intense than the old ESP6 model. Occasionally the drip tray does leak if not inserted properly, and removing the tray to empty it does release a little bit of water underneath it, but a quick wipe with a rag is all you need. Overall this machine is great for its price with its little flaws easy to adapt to. It's ideal for those on a budget and for those willing to learn the art of espresso brewing. You will not be disappointed with this machine's great tasting coffee at this affordable price range. Just learn this machine's behaviour and you're good to go.Read full review

I was a bit unsure when buying it because it was quite cheap. However after a few months I can say it is everything I wanted. Larger coffee cups or mugs that stand a bit higher than normal-no problem, plenty of room under the dispenser (unlike many similar coffee machines) Also it is not overly large so doesn't use too much room on the bench top. So, a nice, simple to use, straight forward well priced machine that delivers a nice creamy coffee. I have had a few similar machines over the years and this is as good as any of them (incidentally, my advice on Sunbeam Picollo - don't buy; I have had 2 and they both quickly broke down) and I am very happy with it. Incidentally, I never use the frothing wand (I just zap the drink in the microwave to heat it) so I won't make any comment on that. The larger coffee container, that you use for double shots, has a button underneath you can press to push the container up out of its holder to empty it, a nice feature you may be unaware of if you don't read the description closely.Read full review

Good size to fit on the bench between my other appliances. Easy to fill with water using a plastic jug and holds a lot of water so I don't have to fill it for a couple of days. Works fast so no long warm up time when first switched on. Don't usually steam milk with it as am usually in a hurry to get to work but tried it a couple times and was easy to do. Great machine.

I have always been a Breville fan and this product is no different. Easy to use and once you know what the correct mix is, it does the job. Only downside is that you have to work out exactly how much water to push through the coffee. If it had an Automatic option it would be brilliant. More expensive machines have Auto option so for the money this one is fine.
