Great deal for general use without power
I watched a ton of videos on all different kinds and types of grain mills. Many of the lesser expensive ones are more for things like cracked corn and coarse meal. Then there are those which are a lot more expensive which actually grind/mill grains down to finer meal and a usable flour. Of all the research done, this is the one I chose. Of course, I am single, don't mind doing things myself and prefer to eat as healthy as possible. This particular mill is DELICATE - - - BUT it does exactly what it is supposed to do and if you treat it with kindness and take care of it, it will serve you well for grinding just about any kind of grain that is NOT oily. Some might consider it a drawback but if the grain is much bigger (literally) than a lentil bean, IT'S TOO LARGE!!! Do NOT grind anything ... Other things such as beans, herbs, corn etc is best to run through a cheap mill that is made just for this. And yes, it is exactly what I have done. If you wish to make the most flour with the least effort, in my experience with this unit, the best way to do so is make the most coarse grind first using the Victorio which creates a coarse meal. By doing this, it allows the meal to flow through the hopper (almost all the time - there are a few grains that can be a challenge such as oat), without packing up when you regrind it on the finest setting which makes a very nice flour!!! Don't try to make a find grind first off. On some grains, they are tough enough you'll actually strip the two splines off the handle, then you have to buy a new handle. Also, DO NOT tighten the burr any more than snug once it's all the way down. Best way to know if you have it too tight is when you are setting up to do your fine grind, back the handle up to the 9:00 position. If it's too tight, the handle will stay in this position. In this even, gradually loosen the adjustment cap until the handle starts to fall on its own. If you operate this unit any tighter than this, you will damage the burr and ruin the unit! Also, CHECK YOUR GRAINS FOR DIRT AND ROCKS!!! These will destroy the burrs!! All and all, a great little unit for the money. Makes a nice flour, though a bit slow but very easy to turn/grind if you follow the procedure listed above. Yeah, the instructions suck

The flour is fine enough for breads and maybe cakes. the flour it makes on the coarse setting is also coarse enough to be about the same as the cracked cereal I have been buying. The flour comes out of the machine nearly straight down and so does not produce any kind of mess.Put a few cups of long grain rice in the hopper. I mostly use this to make wheat flour but first tested it with rice. I compared it with our store bought rice flour and it turned out EXACTLY the same. It can turn into a workout if you want a fine grind, but hey you save a lot of money buying a manual miller and it’s much easier to store. Also saved you money on flours so it’s worth the buy!
