Synopsis
Create your own guide to mastering the disciplines of organizational learning with this invaluable guide based on the national bestseller The Fifth Discipline. "The Fieldbook is a must read for anyone serious about building communities of common purpose, collective action, and continuous learning."--H. Thomas Johnson, author of Relevance Lost and Relevance Regained Peter Senge's The Fifth Discipline revolutionized the practice of management by introducing the theory of learning organizations. Now Dr. Senge moves from the philosophical to the practical by answering the first question all lovers of the learning organization ask: What do they do on Monday morning? The Fieldbook is an intensely pragmatic guide. It shows how to create an organization of learners where memories are brought to life, where collaboration is the lifeblood of every endeavor, and where the tough questions are fearlessly asked. The stories here show that companies, businesses, schools, agencies, and even communities can undo their "learning issues" and achieve superior performance. If ever a work gave meaning to the phrase hands-on, this is it. Senge and his four co-authors cover it all, including: * Reinventing relationships * Being loyal to the truth * Strategies for developing personal mastery * Building a shared vision * Systems thinking in an organization * Designing a dialogue session * Strategies for team learning * Organizations as communities * Designing an organization's governing ideas The Fieldbook is designed to be referred to in meetings, planning sessions, during reflections, or anytime a conflict or challenge arises. Open it up anywhere and icons and cross-references will lead you from defining the problem to thinking about how to solve it. Mark up the pages, write in the margins, draw, scribble, and daydream--and watch your own guide to mastering the disciplines of organizational learning evolve., Senge's best-selling The Fifth Discipline led Business Week to dub him the "new guru" of the corporate world; here he offers executives a step-by-step guide to building "learning organizations" of their own.

  • Excellent Management "fieldbook"

The book was recommended by an MBA profession at the University of Notre Dame. It is an outstanding pragmatic "fieldbook". The topics and chapters are ala carte meaning you can search for a topic and read without reading the entire book. It teaches how, in a very readable way, to create a learning organization. The pages are formated to leave room for lots of notes and has some cute clipart. I highly recommend it for new leaders and managers as well as those in the field for a long time who need a refresher. Don't let the size scare you - it's 1 3/4" thick. I had the spine trimmed and holes punched for a notebook so it will lay flat when reading. I also recommend "The Fifth Discipline" book althought the "fieldbook" is very useful on its own. Happy reading! mrshop

  • Happy customer

I purchased this book because it was a requirement for class. I thought it was going to be like any other text book I have read boring and long; however, I was wrong. This book has many great tools and strategies I find myself using at work. The section I found most interesting is the chapter on team learning. In my unit there is lots of hostility between workers mainly due to the lack of an established standard operational procedure to handle conflict in the unit. The exercises in the chapter on team learning help me solve my dilemma. It turns out it was dialogue the unit lacked. The unit simply needed a couple of minutes a week to ventilate their feelings. I like this book because the reading is interesting, the tools and strategies are effective and it is easy to follow.

  • 5th Discipline Fieldbk by Peter Senge

Excellent book for evaluating and directing a company's resources and focus for becoming a learning organization.
