The lens is as good as a real leica M lens. Produce excellent picture, especailly on B&W films. The camera is not that samll but still very portable. The shutter noice is even not noticeable. The 2.4 aperture is pretty fast. There are two points that make it not perfect. First, the highest shutter speed is only 1/400, so if you use a ISO400 film in the daylight, it might not be possible to get a low enough exposure even with the smallest aperture. Second, you need you press the Mode key for SIX times to close the flash. And when you turn it off then turn it on again, you need to do it again! I really hate this design.
Years ago I had this camera and I missed it terribly. It takes remarkable pictures that most digital cameras can't match. Plus, it is quality built extremely easy to use. You don't need "fancy" when you have the best.
I have been using these cameras for more than ten years. I have three of them (2 leica minilux and 1 minilux zoom). The body is very robust and sturdy. It is very professinal looking. The lens is excellent, said SUPER! Even it's open wide to f2.4, it's still very sharp. The contrast and colour are much better than contax T2. All pictures can enlarge to 30x40 inches without any loss of detail and contast. The lens is the best among other P&S cameras. This camera is more than a point-and-shoot. Oh, I got the fourth from ebay. it is in black. I sold it because I did not like the cover. the paint is easily chip off. I do street photography and preset the focus. This little beauty even gives you manual focus settings. What's more is the 'Brief Instructions' booklet includes depth-of-field chart for each manual preset distance for all apertures. If you're able to judge distance in meters, you'll hardly ever need to use the autofocus. However, it's good to have it as there would be situations where using autofocus would be advantageous. the minilux zoom is not much different than the minilux. it made sharp, crisp and clear photos. I couldn't see the difference photo result. I will end up using this camera more than my contax T2 and Olympus epic. If you have one in your hand, you will feel what I feel. it is a leica mistique!.Read full review
This is a Leica and you get all that this brand represents. This particular model though is rumored to get a shutter problem sooner or later and that made me really passive and careful before buying one. I waited long before I get mine and found a good seller that offered the item with all it's accessories in almost perfect condition (just one little paint scratch). Got mine for 499$. Arrived in original box and manual (had to download an english manual found here http://www.cameramanuals.org/leica_pdf/leica_minilux.pdf because the original was Swedish). I can't wait to put a B&W film in it and start developing it in my own darkroom!
Nice camera; sharp lens; very well built. Feels like a Leica even though it was built by Panasonic and designed by Leitz.
