About this product

Product Information

From the best-selling author of Eat, The Kitchen Diaries and Toast comes a new book featuring everything you need for the winter solstice. Written as a diary, and starting in September, this is the story of Nigel Slater's love for winter, its fables and its family feasts. Here are legends and folktales, myths and memoir, all told in Nigel's warm and intimate signature style. Nigel Slater's new book will have everything you need to prepare for and survive midwinter, from a rundown of Europe's Christmas markets and which books to read and films to watch, to where to go for a winter break and what candles to buy. And at the heart of the book are Nigel's recipes, from quick fireside suppers to winter baking and marmalade making.

    A comforting Christmas read

Nigel begins with the build-up to the festive season and takes us right through to the new year with recipes and recommendations for related things such as wreaths and decorations. Can't wait for Christmas to arrive so I can use it as my guide for the festivities.

  • Seasonal treat

Lovely easy read that flows gently with lovely seasonal tales of winters past and accompanying recipes. It is an enticing blend of Nigel's memories and a cookbook and I haven't decided which I like best. You read it like a novel or a book of short stories but then get nuggets of foodie jewels that you really would like to try out and none of them are too hard to make, some of them take a bit of time but that's Ok. I bought this for a gift and read a few pages before I wrapped it and was so intriqued that I got a copy for myself and love it.

  • Excellent book as expected from Nigel Slater.

Easy recipes, less waste none of the fancy ingredients your sometimes unable to get at the supermarket. The stores are interesting and well written.

The book is fantastic, great recipes and Nigel’s way with words is superb. When he tells the stories and sets the scene you could be right there with him.
