Based on the real-life experiences of Wade Davis, THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW is the story of a Harvard anthropologist (Bill Pullman) who takes an assignment from a wealthy pharmaceutical firm to investigate a 'miracle' drug found in a well-established religion in Haiti--voodoo. The drug is believed to have the power to bring human beings back from the dead, and before long the rational man of science finds himself plunged into a nightmarish world of the occult--complete with black magic, blood rituals, ancient curses, and walking zombies.

    Dated, but a great film!

    A great film of Wes Craven, though dated is still has a great cast, story and effects from one of the world's best horror film directors. I only saw this at a horror film festival at the Scala cinema in London and it had all the audience on the edge of their seats. Only a few scenes made me jump, I'm not going to do spoilers but if you like a suspension themed horror films this is one you should have in your collection. It's good to see again and one I'll keep by Wes's other films. (The Nightmare series!) Thanks.

    Superstitious roller coaster ride!

    I've always found "Serpent and the rainbow" to be of nostalgic value entertainment: It's a great film with a fantastic based in truth storyline and full of "hoodoo ' wonder and magic! Entertaining action - packed wild and dark fun until the very end!
