Fourteen-year-old Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) joins an aging U.S. marshal (Jeff Bridges) and another lawman (Matt Damon) in tracking her father's killer into hostile Indian territory in Joel and Ethan Coen's adaptation of Charles Portis' original novel. Sticking more closely to the source material than the 1969 feature adaptation starring Western icon John Wayne, the Coens' TRUE GRIT tells the story from the young girl's perspective, and re-teams the celebrated filmmaking duo with their NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN producing partner Scott Rudin. Josh Brolin and Barry Pepper co-star.

    A fantastic remake.

    Normally, I am not much for remaking classic films that probably don’t need to be redone in the first place. This is an exception. This movie is very faithful to the original in terms of plot and dialogue. The young actress who plays the character of Mattie Ross couldn’t be any better in this role. Her casting was a perfect choice, as was Jeff Bridges in the role of Rooster Cogburn. A very wry but nuanced performance from him. I’m not so sure about the casting of Matt Damon as LaBeoff, the bounty hunter. He’s a very capable actor, but I’m not sure this was the perfect vehicle for him. All of the other actors in the supporting roles are great, specifically the actor who portrays the gentleman who engages with Mattie about buying back her horses. That scene is hilarious,watching as that man ...

    The main character was looking for someone who had 'true grit' in order to help her; she was, in fact, the one with true grit.

    It's a great adventure story, to begin with. Haley Steinfeld is much better than Kim Darby was in the first movie. The direction is awesome! I love the hymn music and musical strains that tie everything together. I love the spoken language -- they do not use contractions. Thoroughly enjoyable, and good for family viewing.
