I felt compelled to write a review after seeing the previous review. This is a truly magical film from the same director of bona fide classic ‘ bicycle thrives ‘ The film is an almost biblical allegory with the main character being able to perform miracles . The film shows an insight into the poverty that was rife in post war Italy . The one star review didn’t bother watching the whole film which is unfortunate and they clearly didn’t get the spirit of the film and it’s uplifting message . They also didn’t turn over the cover of the DVD to discover the film is actually in black and white . So ignore the one star review from someone who didn’t watch the whole film or bother to look at the back cover .

So boring that I haven't felt disposed to watch this film through. Shot in Black and White, contrary to the colours on the sleeve, the film is about the finding of an orphan boy; the death of the elderly woman who found him; his coming out of an orphanage; and helping italians build a housing estate out of make-shift material. I bought the film to help my italian-language learning but it's so boring and lacklustre that I haven't yet watched it through. To someone else it may be just the thing; but, for me, it's not a film I'd recommend
