Great, classic GameBoy game. It brings back good memories. The levels are fun and challenging. I just wish I could SAVE. Wasn't sure whether to pick "yes" or "no" for good graphics--they were fine for the time, but obviously not by today's standards.

it is not super mario bros but it is a fun little 4 world game that you can easily enjoy fully in 30 minutes or less while it is not the NES game it is a great game for the gameboy, and it is cheap too i will list a few pros and cons on this game though pros: 1. it plays just like the super mario originals 2. you can play it in 30 minutes or less so it is perfect for car or bus rides 3. its not too difficult cons: 1. if you are used to the NES original super mario games the physics are a bit weird 2. it doesn't save and you can only continue once overall i give the game a 3/5 it's a enjoyable game but not that great and you can do alot better if you're picking up a new game for cheap

Story (3/5): Princess Daisy of Sarasaland has been captured, and it's up to Mario to save her. The story itself is fairly simple, but instead of the Mushroom Kingdom, it takes place in a completely different land. Princess Peach is nowhere to be found, and neither is Bowser, but that's not always a bad thing. Game Play (5/5): Not much to say about the way the game plays other than awesome. It's a tried and true formula that works especially well for the Super Mario series. In Super Mario Land, however, you get to ride in a submarine and an airplane. This is a break from the traditonal 2D platforming and is much better than it sounds. There are four worlds with three levels each, and they play like levels from the console versions of Super Mario Bros. Running, jumping on Goombas, Koopas, and avoiding other obstacles in true platforming action. Controls (4/5): Controls are very simple, D-Pad moves Mario, press A to jump, and hold B to run. The only reason the controls don't get a 5/5 is that jumping isn't as tight as I would like it to be. This can cause some deaths if you're not being real careful. Graphics (4/5): Graphics are what you would expect from an early Game Boy game, but that it isn't bad. You can easily tell what you can and can't jump on and enemies are all different and unique. Graphics are obviously nothing compared to today's standards, but that doesn't matter if your playing Game Boy. Sound (5/5): The sound is excellent. Great music that you will likely get stuck in your head for hours on end. Overall (4/5): If you collect Super Mario games, then this is one you need to have. E-bay is a great place to find this game for a reasonable price, and is sure to make any Mario fan very happy.Read full review
I've played this game for maybe 5 hours now. It's a very fun game and it really works well for an original game boy title. I bought it because people recommended it to me from their experiences and I was intrigued; mainly because it's one of the few mario games I've never played. I would recommend it for a low price including shipping, around 7-8$ is a fair estimate. It's a good time waster and some fun secrets to be found. I really like some of the power-ups, but others should die in a fire. :P I wish it had continues, or a battery save or something, because I often die halfway through and it makes me sad. Older games are hard people! The worlds are very diverse and fun, the enemies are nice and varied as well, and the most important part, the gameplay is done just right. I actually think this might be one of the best 2D mario games. If I could play this on my DS Lite, it had continues, and one power-up was slightly changed it would get a 5/5. Instead it's a solid 4/5. Good Job, nintendo, for letting someone other than Shigeru Miyamoto try their hand at this and it turning out great. Breakdown: Graphics (3.5/5) Not too big a deal here as you shouldn't expect too much out of a GB anyway. Game play and Controls: (4.5/5) Music: (4/5) Difficulty: 3.5/5 Value: 4/5 Recommended buy price: 6-8$ Hope this helps anyone reading.Read full review
Super Mario Land was the first Mario game to have ever come out on a Game Boy system. It came out in '89, and though I owned several Game Boys over the years I never got around to playing this classic until now in 2011, and I was surprised at how much fun it was, even today. Graphically, it looks alot like Super Mario Bros, for the NES. However, the worlds, level designs, and some of the new enemies are more silly and imaginative. It all has a certain quirky charm that I find delightful. The music is simple, but catchy and upbeat (what would you expect, Mario game music is iconic). The gameplay is in classic Mario style; smashing bricks, grabbing mushrooms and starmans, and jumping on and tossing fireballs at enemies. The two moments that do stand out from Super Mario Bros. though, are when you pilot both a submarine and an airship firing missiles at enemies. A nice thing to throw in to mix things up, though recent titles have Mario doing crazier things. All in all, gameplay is short and relatively easy. With only four worlds and three levels in each, most gamers can burn through this in thirty minutes or less. Thirty-five if you take your time or get stuck somewhere for a moment. Every second, however, you will enjoy, I promise you that. You'll likely want to play it again too.Read full review
Super mario Land came out at the release of the classic gameboy, not created by miyamoto it still hangs on has a really great Mario game because it sticks to the mechanics of what makes a great Mario game and changes them. For example the graphics look a bit like black and white NES orginal game but you will notice diffrent enemies from the Koopa Troops and stage bosses. Mario power ups still look the same has the orginal but the fire flower now bounces up and around when it hits other platforms, and it can collect coins. Adding more to the fun is the marine pop and sky pop stages where Mario jumps into a machine and the gameplay turns into shoot em up. It's a great game to play, the only draw back is that it is a bit on the short side with only 16 stages.
The title probably should have said it’s the second game and not the first I was a little upset about that but I guess I should have looked at the picture better That’s the only problem other than not being clear which one it is it is really fun!

This was one of the few Mario games I've ever played, but I never really got bored while playing this game. It may not be the most detailed or longest game ever, but it has an amazing sound track and a mysterious feel to the game. It's easily the black sheep of the Mario games. Without spoiling you're experience with the game I'll say this it is a much more strange Mario game. It's a little darker. I would say it is the Majora's mask of the Mario series, but it isn't nearly as dark as Majora's mask... it just stands out like Majora's mask as being different. Overall it is worth getting at least for a collection piece. It is an underrated game that wasn't long appreciated because most people think the sequel is far superior to this game... I never really played the second so this game is good enough for me. This game will be about an hour of gaming so savor it (if you're really good probably forty minutes), no over world, no saves, just platforming. Hope I was of help to you. ^^ -KalebRead full review

Back when I had my white brick of a gameboy I can remember this being one of the first titles I ever owned. At this time I didn't know much about Mario but knew OF him because I was of a Sega Genesis household. Anyhoo I remembered this game fondly and decided to pick up a copy, the original being lost to whatever realm contains stuff you lose as a child and have no idea where it went (which also probably contains half of my old hotwheels and first lionel train set). After getting it shipped to me I dug out a gameboy advance sp to play it on since I've long outgrown the desire for eyestrain of non-back-lit screens and sat down to enjoy Mario. 45 minutes passed before I stood up again but not out of frustration. I'd finished the game, seen the credits and started over again. It is short and that may be a point in it's favor. That's not to say it's bad but the graphics are the most poorly aged part of the game. It's basically like the very first mario game but condensed to black and white only and considering the mild strain on the eyes I experienced keeping up with the action on a back-lit screen I consider it a miracle that I didn't need glasses. However if you do finish it and want more then the game, like I said, automatically restarts but with more enemies spawned between you and the finish. It does add challenge but not much desire to replay the levels. One thing the I like about this Mario game is that it actually has different characters. The final boss fight is NOT with Bowser and it was the first game to introduce Daisy but that's really as far as the innovation goes. Other than what I've said it is basically your classic side scrolling mario game. It's still got some fun to be had but there are far better Mario games out there.Read full review
