Interesting!
I bought this CD for use as possible pre-show music for an upcoming production of Once Upon a Mattress which is set in a medieval time period. The CD quality is great and there is a wide range of music covering England and various parts of Europe from the 13th to the1 5th centuries. The instrumentation is "played on the original instruments" which makes it a little strange to my modern ears, but interesting to listen to. Overall, I enjoy it, but since it covers such a wide range, it is a little too disjointed for my purposes. Some of the music is peppy, but some sounds like church music and the selections come in short snippets from one style to another without much rhyme or reason that I can see. Also, some of the music had a distinctly middle eastern sound which may be ... The CD does not have the bawdy lyrics found on some Renaissance CDs I have purchased; overall, it has a more serious, almost scholarly feel IMHO. Bottom line: I enjoy this CD but not for the purpose I intended.

I bought this for a Ren Faire party. As background music it isn't good, though it is very period. the CD is excellent, with a very accurate historical depection of the music of the time. It is beautiful, melodic and depressing at the same time. Though that was what life was during that time, eh? I recommend this for anyone who wants to listen to the real music of the Renaissance. For a party, NO, it's too annoying, however, again, it is lovely. I rate it 4 starsI bought this for a Ren Faire party. Great CD for the price!
I love this CD! All tracks seem to be taken from old recordings (I recognize two of them from a 1960's copy of "A Nonesuch Christmas) but the sound is good. Another reviewer liked this CD but didn't find it useful for parties. Well - a Medieval Christmas was essentially a religious observance, so it's not all krumhorn music that you can tap your toes to! Some of the tracks on this CD are solemn, and given the starkness and beauty of winter, that's fitting too.I love this CD! Excellent Original Renaissance Era Music!
