  • It works. Don't believe the other reviews

Very interesting model system. Other reviews stated problems with the engineering causing the moon rotation around the sun not work, but it worked well for us. Careful attention is needed during construction. Only complaint is that there was too much drag on one piece, making it too difficult to rotate the handle to drive the earth/moon rotation. A little shaving off of high surfaces and the problem was resolved. Overall, it's a great way for kids to visualize orbits after completing the construction.

  • Great orrery for the price

I got this used, and a few crucial parts were missing. But the Vexbug company sent them to me within a week. It is obviously not to scale, but it really does a decent job of showing the spinning of the celestial objects. If you hold it up to a light, you almost get the shadow effect on the moon. Pretty easy to build for ages 10 or 11 and up.
