  • Fascinating History

This book is the official history of ASIO and as such is not light bedtime reading, but it is invaluable as a source and reference for students of the Australian intelligence services, their structure, personnel and the sometimes stormy relations with both the Australian and foreign governments. It is a scholarly work, don't expect to find tales of glamorous 007 type characters. Often seen as a murky and unaccountable organisation, ASIO is put under the spotlight, warts and all. The writing is somewhat stilted and littered with public service jargon, but has an extensive glossary for those not familiar with the area of study. Highly recommended for students of Australia's recent political history.
