About this product

Product Information

Employing superb, clear draughtsmanship, this book illustrates each and every detail of the rigging of typical period fore-and-aft vessels. The rigging of period ship models is arguably the most complex task that any modeler has to accomplish; the intricacies can be daunting and visual references limited. The author's first book, Rigging Period Ship Models, was a triumph of clarity for those needing to decipher the complexities of the square rig and has now sold in multiple editions. This book does the same for fore-and-aft craft and deploys three typical eighteenth-century types - an English cutter, a three-masted French lugger, and an American schooner. Some 200 diagrams show clearly where each separate item of standing and running rigging is fitted, led and belayed. Whatever the requirements of the model maker, all the information is here. This new paperback edition brings a visual clarity to the complexities of period rigging and will delight anyone with an interest in the rigging of traditional fore-and-aft craft.

  • Rigging Period Ship Models by Lennarth Petersson (2000)

In reviewing the book "Rigging Period Ship Models" by Lennarth Petersson (2000) You will be pleasantly surprised to find that this is not a book full of wasted text, it is a book chocked full of beautiful drawings! This is a book on ‘Ships of the line’ rigging and that’s it! I was very pleased by the amount of detail concerning this book, the drawings are clean, the text is very readable, and the information is incredible. I liked the small size of the book and the size of the print used on each page. It was light in weight compared to some of the other ship of the line books. The paper quality is remarkable and the drawings fill as much of the page as possible. This book is to the point, insightful, and packed with detailed information surrounding all you will ever need to know ...

  • This book is a must have for any square rig ship modeler.

Entire book (hardcover) done with clean illustrations of the late 18th century 36 gun frigate HMS Melampus. Clear and simple to follow instructions throughout entire book which contains all pictorial diagrams of every rigging item on the entire ship. Even a novice can understand the correct rigging procedure for every part of this ship which is a typical example of late 18th century warships.
