Nerves twitching, you enter Castle Shadowgate on a quest to destroy the evil Warlock Lord before he unleashes the mighty Behemoth upon the world. As you make your way through the castle, you encounter deadly obstacles and bloodthirsty beasts such as wyverns, banshees, sphinxes, hellhounds, and even a troll under the bridge demanding tolls. Released in 1989, the Shadowgate NES game is a port from an earlier Apple game, built around a series of trial and error puzzles. While there are hints, they grow less useful as the game progresses, and the limited supply of torches puts a timer on the game. Should you fail in your mission, it is certain that the Behemoth will enable the Warlock Lord to wreak havoc upon the world. Use your wits (and a bit of luck) to make your way safely through Castle Shadowgate and destroy this evil once and for all.

An excellent early version of D&D. Great condition for a game that's over 30 years old. The graphics and soundtrack alone make the gameplay itself very hypnotic, alluring and addictive. A puzzler from beginning to end. I highly recommend this game for those seeking adventure.

I remember being scared to death of this game when my grandma played it when I was a kid. As I grew up and became a gamer myself I would occassionally mention to my friends of a game called "stargate" that I played when I was younger than constantly killed me. When I decided to buy it I found out it was Shadowgate not Stargate which would explain why I could never find it on google. This is a point and click puzzle game secretly disguised as an adventure game. You will work through the castle Shadowgate to find and defeat the evil lord. Every wrong thing you do in this game leads to your characters death. Anything from opening a cage and getting mauled by a genetic mutation and going down a ladder to fall to your death lays await in this game. Many random things are required to beat it ... (I'd also buy the game Trog if I didn't already own it! It's another must have.)

Now is the time to collect vintage game's if your a nes fan then this game shadowgate should be a part of it, the complicated complex puzzles, designed too off you every step of the way, makes this game a top 20 contender for most difficult game's too beat. Unless you have help. Back then we didn't have this option.
