About this product

Product Information

Loosely based on the 1974 Irwin Allen film of the same name, Towering Inferno puts you in the role of a fireman extinguishing flames in a burning building. But instead of standing on the outside of each building spraying water through the windows, like in Imagic's Fire Fighter, this game puts you inside the building, where you must put out the rapidly moving flames. There are nine floors in each of the nine buildings, each with a different maze-like floor plan.

In addition to fighting fires, you must also rescue the people trapped inside. You score points for every flame you put out and for every person you rescue. Each floor has four helpless victims, and you begin each floor with four firemen. The game ends when you get touched four times by flames on a single floor or when you fail to rescue at least one survivor within a certain time limit.

  • Great example of a movie franchise Atari 2600 game

It's an interesting take on the theme of the movie, it's fairly easy to understand, but difficult to master. The progression feels solid as you put out the fire and rescue people from each level of the building. For a very early movie franchise game, it does a pretty fair job of representing itself, I'm pretty happy with it.

  • Challenging and fun game!

The graphics are good for an Atari. The gameplay is challenging and makes you want to keep trying. There are 9 floors per building and 9 buildings. the higher the floors the less time you have to save everyone. The fire movement is random and can be both challenging and frustrating. Overall I think this game is a good value and worth giving a try.

  • It's an Atari Game

Really just got it to add to my collection. It's average for it's age and genre. I wouldn't spend large sums of money on it or anything though.

  • Towering Inferno flames out!

The game does not work. I can't figure out what is wrong with it. I think I bought a defective game cassette.
