Strange, moving, and beautiful." -- Jon J. Muth, Caldecott Medal-winning author of Zen Shorts "Bravo." -- Brian Selznick, Caldecott Medal-winning author of The Invention of Hugo Cabret "Magnificent." -- David Small, Caldecott Medalist

I first discovered this book a few years ago and instantly fell in love. Shuan Tan is my fav artist/writer because of his talent and creativity. This book tells a story using only pictures which allows each reader to discover their own meaning and story in the text. This is not a graphic novel to just flick through in an hour but something to explore and study deeply. Tan does everything for a purpose in his books and every detail adds to the story. this is a book you can read a thousand times and still find something new. do yourself a favour and buy it

  • Amazing, Simply Amazing

This book is a graphic novel based on using only pictures... There is a story at the same time as well. The main thing about this book is, that the art is hands down astonishing! I recommend this to any graphic novel lover out there.

  • The ARRIVAL is a Jewel of a Book

Love this book, which is delightful for both adults and children. Magical illustrations convey the difficulty of adjusting to a place where everything is different from home. He does adapt, with the help of some kind new friends, and sends for his wife and daughter. Once the family is reunited, the journey is complete. I have already given this gorgeous book to two youngsters, who both loved it and pored over the pictures figuring out the subtleties of the story. Adults with artistic sensibilities will find this book a jewel, too. One last note - the physical substance of this book is beautifully designed and adds to the mysterious timeless quality of ...
