I saw this mystical Marvel movie when it first premiered on TV way back in the seventies and have practically worn out my old copy of the original VHS release, so I am very happy to finally own a quality DVD of this forgotten fun fantasy flick. Sure it's a different origin that the one in the original comics, but you have to remember it was made back in a time when practically all Marvel superheroes were given new origins for live action television series (in the Captain America pilot Steve Roger Jr., who here was actually the SON of the original WWII hero, was given STEROIDS to get his super powers for goodness sake!) and on "The Incredible Hulk" Bruce Banner was even renamed David for no particular reason (or at least one that is really not worth getting into anymore...). Sure, the special effects can't hold a CGI candle to the 2016 movie version, but they were the best that movie-length 1978 TV pilots had to offer, backed up by a committed cast (including Sir John "Ryan's Daughter" Mills as Lindmer the Ancient One and Jessica "Arrested Development" Walter as the evil sorceress Morgan le Fay) playing the reality of the scenario for all that it is worn. Well worth checking out for superhero fans and those who dig old TV movies.Read full review

In 1978, I saw this movie for the first time and fell for Dr. Strange. Years and years passed without another appearance of DS. However, I never forgot him and then Marvel gave us DS. My waiting was over. Recently, just thought I'd try to find the original and e-bay had just what I wanted. Thoroughly enjoyed reliving the first movie version of Dr. Strange and it now joins my other Dr. Strange DVDs.

This was a made for tv movie, so the budget is low. Think Marvel was trying to get its foot into the movie/tv business, with tv being easiest/cheapest. Not bad, just not that really great/outstanding. Think the only people who'll buy this are the comic book geeks. As for me, I recorded it on vhs when it aired. But it was something different at the time. Think of the old Spider-Man tv series....pretty much in the same genre/style if that's the right word to use.

I really like this movie. I think the characters and scripts are very good. It has Jessica Walter. One of my favorite actresses. I know it might be slightly dated but it was the first Dr. Strange movie.

This film was originally made as a pilot for a proposed tv series in 1978. Given that the special effects of the day were nowhere near what they are today, I found the movie entertaining. The copy quality was surprisingly good and clean. Sound also quite acceptable. A nice overall production for the day.

It was a made-for-TV movie from the 1970’s. Very nostalgic, based on a Marvel comic book.
