About this product

Product Information

An ambitious executive accepts an invitation from his boss to attend a dinner party where high-powered professionals make fun of unsuspecting dimwits in this remake of Francis Veber's 1998 comedy THE DINNER GAME. Upwardly mobile executive Tim (Paul Rudd) has just landed his company an extremely wealthy Swiss client when his boss, Lance (Bruce Greenwood), invites him to an exclusive, yet unusually mean-spirited dinner party where each of the high-powered executives brings a guest to make fun of. Recognizing that his long-awaited promotion is finally within reach, Tim begins to have second thoughts about participating in the elaborate charade when his longtime girlfriend, Julie (Stephanie Szostak), the successful curator at a local art gallery, voices intense disdain for the idea. The following day, Tim is looking for a way out of the dinner when fate throws the perfect guest right in front of his luxury car. Barry (Steve Carell) is a sweet but dim-witted IRS agent with an unusual hobby: he creates elaborate dioramas featuring stuffed mice. His latest project is "The Last Supper," and he's just put the finishing touches on a tiny mouse Jesus to set at the center of the table. Tim knows that Barry is his ticket to a big corner office on the seventh floor, but the closer the party looms, the more he realizes that his bumbling new acquaintance isn't just an idiot, but also is a magnet for chaos.

A lot funnier than I expected it to be!

I hadn't heard of this movie when I bought it. I got it because I saw steve carell and paul rudd were both in it. I don't always love their movies, but there have been a few really good ones from one or the other of these guys. I loved ant-man and loved the despicable me movies. so I gave this one a try, bought it for really cheap. so glad I did. this movie is really freaking hilarious, and had both me and my gf have been talking about it for days after seeing it.

  • A Very offbeat comedy

Get ready for some off beat comedy and some good fun as Paul Rudd and Steve Carell team up in this comedy. The story is about Tim Conrad (Paul Rudd) a man who wants to move up in his company and to do so he must bring a 'special' guest to a dinner at his boss's house. Tim meets Barry Speck (Steve Carell) when he hits him with his car as Barry is trying to save a dead mouse from being run over, it turns out that Barry is a taxidermist who specializes in creating scenes using dead mice. Tim immediately sees that Barry is that 'special' person who will make him a hit at the dinner so he invites Barry to be his guest. What he does not tell Berry is that the dinner is 'special' because they invite the strangest people they can find and make fun of them. From there we watch as Tim and Barry get ...

  • Hard to watch

Movie was just....hard to watch. I laughed perhaps a handful of times. The variety of characters were good. As with most Steve Carell films it was over the top and overexaggerated. It was funny in parts. I might have liked it more if I had watched it over a few days. The reason I found it hard to watch is because of the general non-violent human torture. Paul Rudd just wants to get ahead in his business so he agrees to take part in a special dinner party. He meets Steve Carell and from that moment nothing in his life can go well! Time after time, blundering Carell inadvertently destroys every part of the Rudd's life! I personally could only take so many awful things happening to this guy. If you like that kind of thing then it would be a great movie for you. Lots of extras Great ...

  • Sadly..it's average

Not as hilariously-schmucky as I was expecting. I thought Steve Carell's character on "the office" actually comes off a little schmuck-ier. The character of Barry is more a guy you feel sorry for. He is socially awkward by reclusive behavior and heartache. Paul Rudd plays the corporate go-getter who must realize that hurting people is not the nicest way to get to the top...no kidding? Zack Galifanakis plays a good dork villian though. A "seducing schmuck" is also funny at times. A few other schmucks attend the dinner(last 30 mins)...but seem a bit more like circus folk or lunatics. Pretty predictable from start to finish. However,if you like this than you may also like a movie from the 80's called "The Whoopie Boys". Nevertheless, it seems Jerry Lewis still played the all-time schmuck.

  • "Pretty Good Comedy!"

Steve Carell and Paul Rudd star in Jay Roach's 2010 comedy. An executive is invited to a dinner for idiots hosted by his boss and meets a guy who would be perfect to bring. This is pretty good and Steve and Paul are great together. This dvd has nice picture and sound plus a making-of featurette, deleted scenes and outtakes. I recommend this.
