About this product

Product Information

Did the Earth once undergo a super ice age, one that froze the entire planet? Paul Hoffman claims that the Earth experienced just such a climate cataclysm 700 million years ago. The consequences of this idea are far-reaching. For Hoffman believes that this global deep freeze triggered the great Cambrian Explosion, the so-far unexplained moment in geological time when a glorious profusion of complex life forms first sprang from the primordial soup. In her account, Gabrielle Walker takes us on a journey to some of the most picturesque and formidable places on Earth - from the polar ice cap to the Australian outback and the African desert - as Hoffman and his fellow geologists travel the earth to find supporting evidence for their theories.

Book safely packaged and delivered promptly. Item as described. Very impressed by the quick delivery of this book. This is a great book (I am familiar with earlier editions) and a must have for those interested in audio recording, to get this edition for a great price was a complete no brainer. Would recommended this seller. No communication needed, really, with such a quick delivery- but clearly communicated as to dispatch. Thank you, WeBuyBooks.

  • Enjoyed a great read on a subject which could easily have been made boring.

Brilliant book about cutting edge geological theories, very readable for both geologists and normal folk. Written in typical American novel style which may not suit everyone but does give the brain cells a rest in between the geology bits, if you don't like the anecdotes you can always skip them.
