I got this movie because of I wanted to see some other movies with Bruce Dern, but better yet this movie has another one of my favorite actors Robert Shaw. So it's a pretty cool '70s flick. It's not Jaws of course, but nothing is. And it's not even Capricorn One or Westworld caliber, but it's still a great addition to my '70s collection. I'd recommend it for Bruce Dern and Robert Shaw alone.

BLACK SUNDAY 1976 film by John Frankenheimer one of Frankenheimer's classic 70's thrillers is released on Paramount dvd but tragically is worth less than $10 here's why the 2:35:1 Digital remaster transfer is average quality still some Grain and dirt in the picture so probably give 6/10 for picture quality, the 5.1 Dolby surround sound mix is also average about 6/10 for sound quality EXTRAS- there is none at all not even the original Theatrical trailer has been added pure Laziness by paramount so all you get on the main menu is play, scene selection, language options, audio setup.tragically this film has yet to be given a proper blu-ray release until then this old dvd reissue will have to put up with but only worth less than $10 i give 5 stars for the film, well directed by John Frankenheimer and excellent acting performances but this dvd reissue is worth almost nothing 2 stars for the dvd poor picture quality and no extrasRead full review

Michael Lander (Bruce Dern) is the weekend pilot for the Goodyear blimp airship that broadcasts the play-by-play action of the NFL game of the week. He is an ex-POW from the Vietnam War and is suffering from mental problems. His girlfriend, Dahlia (Marthe Keller) is a member of Black September, an Arab Terrorist group. He has been coerced to detonate an explosive device containing 200,000 steel darts directly over the football stadium during the Super Bowl. The device is shaped like the stadium for maximum killing effect. Mossad agent Major David Kabakov (Robert Shaw) and FBI agent Sam Corley (Fritz Weaver) work together to defeat the plan. Tipped off by a taped message left behind at a raid on a Black September stronghold, they began the process of trying to find out what, where, and when and how the strike would be. In this political thriller is a convincing scenario. The characters were well developed. This could have been successful.Read full review
This is one of those movies that I have seen in bits and pieces over the years and finally decided to buy. It was well worth the money. It is a very good action/suspense movie and well worth a couple of hours of your time. I know I am going to sound like the "get off my lawn" old guy but this is one of those movies that actually has acting in it. Quite unlike most movies today! Bruce Dern playing a crazy guy is always fun and Robert Shaw is great as usual. Buy it, watch it, and enjoy!
Watched this movie when it first came out. Long long time ago. I have been wanting to see it again for years now. It was used or pre-owned. When I opened the jewel case the disk was in mint condition. I don't think it was ever touched.
