A Brilliant Concept - but Flawed.
Box sets contain 3rd radius curves, but the trains run much better on 4th radius curves. Found mine to be literally uncontrollable! Sent back to Hornby (who still service & repair these - even though there is only ONE gentleman at Margate who still looks after these steam locomotives), and they replaced valves and seals at no cost. That was fantastic service. They also operate at 15v as opposed to 12v and I've seen track spark and plastic sleepers melt due to the higher voltage. Smell just like the real thing! Very atmospheric! Just wish I had been more successful with mine - but I sold it on. An amazing experience - learn the controls!
A great bit of kit from Hornby and always enjoyed running the loco. Controlling takes some getting used to but is simple once understood! Using a rolling road or coaches helps. The real steam and smell is unbeatable
