Like all cookbooks they are opinions of the people writing them. Steve has some great ideas and methods especially for beginners, even helpful hints for everyone else. However, it isn't a "Bible" there are other ways to get the same or better results. I do recommend the book, but don't forget to experiment and put your own spin on things. Everyone has different tastes for sweet, sour, spice, and heat, no one recipe can cover them all. Take what he gives you and make it yours.

It was written almost entirely geared towards charcoal grilling. It was full of fancy recipes that I would never care to use. Had I had the opportunity to look it over before buying, I never would have wasted even the very small amount for the used book and would have felt cheated if I has paid for a new book.

My husband and I are very satisfied with this grilling book. The book is full of great detailed color pictures to go along with the instructions. This is not just a recipe book.... it truly is a book that teaches you step-by-step on how to grill foods that you eat every day. The instructions are easy to follow and they work. You won't need another book to pick-up the missing parts of this book, because there are no missing parts. This book has been a great help to us in learning how to grill.....not burn the food. Blessings, Sandy
The book was really nice, I saw it at a friend home (which I had been borrowing) and had to have my own copy book. With in the book the recipes are easy to use with step by step photo, and I always like to see what it is suppose to look like. At the end of the book there are many interesting recipes for rubs; wet and dry All of which sounded and look very great. If you are amateur or intermediate grillers this book is a great one to have in your cookbook collection.
As an avid barbecuer, I found a very convinient to purchase my books on Ebay. Can't beat paying a fraction of the original cost and the convinience of shopping for them from my confortable desk chair. Just Missing a couple of books to complete my Steve Raichlen Collection. So many years buying from ebay, I could tell you, a great experience, merchandise from china, 48 lower states, Mexico and Latin America. would not do it any other way Ralph New York
My cookbook days go way back, as both a user and as a newspaper food editor, and I think Raichlen's 2001 book is the best around, hands down. The chapters are well laid out, and there is very little foo-foo to turn you off. I bought 2 copies for son and son-in-law, who say they actually like perusing the book for new grilling ideas. The special butter sauces caught their attention, and they both freeze them now (something unheard of)for future grill events. Hey folks, this is THE gift for that person who you have no clue what to buy. They'll love "How to Grill."
This is the ultimate grilling book complete with clear instructions and full color photos. Highly recommended.

Great book for grilling! Recipes I have made so far are delicious! And great tips for barbecuing! My husband lately hasn't been doing the best grilling. Our porkchops were dry and steaks were tough. A friend of mine recommended this book for the basic know how on grilling. I know my husband wouldn't read it so I started reading a little to him. Eventually he picked up the book and started reading it. Since then his barbecuing has gotten alot better. No more dry food!
It is a great source book for all who enjoy BBQ smoking no matter what grill you may own.
