About this product

Product Information

Monty Python delivers a scathing, anarchic satire of both religion and Hollywood's depiction of all things biblical with their second--and tightest--full-length film. The setting is the Holy Land in 33 A.D., a time of poverty and chaos, with no shortage of messiahs, followers willing to believe in them, and exasperated Romans trying to impose some order. At the center of it all is Brian Cohen (Graham Chapman), a reluctant would-be messiah who rises to prominence as a result of a series of absurd and truly hilarious circumstances that parallel the life of Christ--providing ample opportunity for the entire ensemble (John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and Chapman) to shine in multiple roles as they blaspheme and mock everyone and everything from ex-lepers, Pontius Pilate, and the art of haggling to crazy prophets, Roman centurions, and crucifixion.Directed by Python Terry Jones, MONTY PYTHON'S LIFE OF BRIAN is an uproarious biblical parody that does to ancient Rome what THE HOLY GRAIL did to the Middle Ages. Rome is run by pathetic wimps, liberation fronts fight with each other over acronyms, and gladiators put on bloody children's matinees as the people search desperately for someone to lead them out of their life of misery and poverty. And Brian is that man. Sort of. Well, not really. Chapman excels as Brian, a simple, quiet man suddenly thrust in the role of leading the revolution--while constantly being yelled at by his shrew of a mother.

  • The most "intellectual" of Monty Python's movies

You have to like Monty Python's higher brow comedy, and John Cleese's type of humour especially, to like this movie. Compared to the other films by Python, this one is heavy on talk and verbal satire, less so on visual humour. They skewer the hypothetical life and times of Jerusalem and the Jews during the period of the New Testament, make the Romans look like very reasonable autocratic rulers, and everyone else look like ungrateful subjects that didn't know how good they had it - all for fun of course. This is not a satire on religion, but more a satire on religious politics, follies and those that perpetrate or believe in them. The movie shouldn't offend anyone today - all faiths can watch this and say "We're not like that anymore" (or are we?). And the final crucifixion scene ...

  • Another madcap movie......

Laughs all the way through the movie. I'd be lying if I didn't say I got the movie, because I wanted the last scene. This is with the song "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life".......its wonderful with what's going on at the time. I shall not tell you....Believe me its very funny. Thanks again to Monty Python's crew of regulars!

  • Monte Pyton's Life of Brian

A Classic! Very funny! I've seen it a few times and each time I see something I didn't before. The actors are great, men playing women playing men, hahaa... Monte Python humor. Love it!

  • MONTY PYTHON'S LIFE OF BRIAN

A MONTY PYTHON MOVIE SAYS IT ALL. THE COMEDY THAT COMES FROM THE BRITISH GROUP IS A MAIN STAY OF COMEDY. NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO IT'S FUNNY. IF YOU HAVE ONE OF THE MOVIES BY THEM YOU NEED TO HAVE ALL.
