I wanted a guitar based game, so I tried it out not expecting anything special. I couldn't have been more wrong. It's so much fun. I've played guitar for over forty years and though I don't feel like I am learning anything from playing the game, I can see how someone new to playing guitar could surely benefit greatly from it. I would recommend this to someone who is serious about wanting to learn. The initial stages are kind of boring for those who already know how to pick or can find notes on the neck. Newcomers to guitar or bass (this version needed a $10 addon for bass), will welcome the slow pace and have a great feeling of accomplishment when they complete a song. The only gripe is that tacking on this game is greatly improved if the audio is sent directly to a receiver instead of through the TV's HDMI port. Overall this is a quality game (it is a game), with the added ability to actually learn how to play guitar or bass!!Read full review

Was unable to play the game without the gig instrument. However, not upset due to the price of getting both games rocksmith and gig. Rocksmith was able to play once I figured out the correct cable to use my guitar and the game with.

This game/learning tool is amazing. I was never very good at Guitar Hero, I don't have super fast reflexes or quick fingers, and GH always seemed "fun" but with no real skills to be gained. AS soon as I heard about Rocksmith I got excited, because I recently decided to actually learn to play electric guitar, plus I had an old bass in the attic that my daughter decided she didn't want to play, about 10 years ago. I did a little research then ordered the game. I was not disappointed. Sure, I don't hit all the notes yet, but the game makes me play up to tempo and it makes my newbie fingers very tired as I work out the rhythms and notes. Lots of fun, I would play for hours every day if I didn't have to work, and have a family, and all those other distractions... The arcade games are a waste of time (as far as I'm concerned - hence the 4 star rating), and I honestly don't have a clue what to do with all the different bass guitars and effects that I have won. I mean, I'm still playing the same real-life instrument, and I don't get a cute/radical animated character up on stage holding a death metal axe during the performances, so what's the point? But those are easy to ignore. I can see a time in the not too distant future where I will have moved beyond the playlist (am I seriously going to fork over $2.99 per song for additional downloads from Guitar Center?), however it is definitely the right thing at the right time for me right now. I'm happy I didn't wait for the 2014 version to come out, although I have pre-ordered it as well. (I am hoping it will allow me to practice parts of the songs over and over to get the licks down) Guitar Hero with a usable skill set. Better. It's a hoot.Read full review
Last year for Christmas, I gave my husband an electric guitar. It didn't receive much attention throughout the year. He is the ultimate gamer, so this year's gift has been ideal for him to actually start playing his guitar. It seems to be helpful to start learning basic concepts. It starts out by having the player adjust strings to tune their guitar & then basic concepts are introduced. We're happy w/ it & it's got his attention.
Really. Excellent. Product. First of all I've bought a Fender solo guitar starter kit, to tease my kids ... They did not seem quite interested though. Then one of my colleagues told me about the RockSmith and I've ordered it via eBay (thanks to eBay and Seller for excellent service) and starting the day Rocksmith entered my house things changed - my kids are playing guitar about at least two hours a day... Great idea and a great game combining study with fun in a very balanced way, inspiring youngsters and enriching their world by music. The product itself is flawless, hardware is working ideally, software is organized and implemented in a logical manner, music samples, songs, patterns and effects are just great. Now I've also bough Fender Bass starter kit and I'm going to order yet another Rocksmith cable at the first opportunity so my kids can play together (Multiplayer mode supported!) and I will enjoy live concerts every evening :) Thanks again, Ubisoft. This game really helps you learn and it encourages you to pick up the guitar and just play. There’s also really nice song selections to choose from. Highly recommended for anyone interested in playing the guitar.

Good game. Take a few moments to understand how to play the game. There is a delay control that you can modify if you experience a delay from when you strum to when you hear it through your speakers. So forget about the other reviews with people complaining about delays....THERE'S A SPOT TO FIX IT!! The game feels like it adjusts to your skill if you are struggling which is nice. Changing the difficulty is really nice when someone better than you plays. You can change the difficulty from difficult to easier if you failing, or easier to harder if it is too easy for you. Really well made and will teach you many things about playing guitar. For the novice and the experienced guitarist.
Rocksmith is a fun way to learn how to play an actual guitar unlike any other game. At times I feel the game isn't as responsive as it should be as per picking up and sustaining played notes. I also feel that the game is missing a few options or settings in the audio configuration such as muting vocals and bass guitar or things like that, so that you can hear only your notes.
Great application linking your electric guitar with a Playstation learning game. My 16 yr old son loves it and thinks its a lot more fun to learn this way. He's a lefty and it has right/left hand modes. Automatically adjusts the difficulty as you progress. Connection and set up was easy. * Must use external speakers connected to Playstation when using HDMI connection from Playstation to TV. ( Audio lag thru TV speakers )
Great fun and you do actually learn. Get the 2014 version. You can download the original Rocksmith song list through the store for ten bucks and it updates all the songs from the original. You'll want those songs. Some are pretty good and for the ten bucks it's well worth it.
