    Gritty, sometimes violent but thoroughly engaging.

    Excellent performances by Helen Mirren and Bob Hoskins. This is a violent movie, but has some very emotional scenes. The ending scene is so well done, with Hoskins showing a myriad of emotions with his face only. It was released in 1980 and has been a favourite of ours since.

    Out of print Criterion DVD. Very hard to find. This was by far the best value anywhere. It played perfectly.
