Memories and Recipes of Justine's
Craig Claibourne in The New York Times, 1966, writes of Justine's: "This establishment . . . is conceivably the best restaurant in the South." This lovely book is written by Janet Smith, daughter of the owners and founders of Justine's in Memphis, Tennessee, a restaurant that won honors and accolades for the forty-eight years it was open. It is a tribute to her parents, the staff, and the amazing success of Justine's. The art by Janet, the pictures of Justine's -- elegant Southern mansion, interior rooms, gardens, beautiful table settings and food, parties--and the written history are fascinating. There are reviews, newspaper articles, magazine articles that record the award winning success of Justines as "the best restaurant in the South" for its food, Southern hospitality, beauty and elegance. For many years I have been making the wonderful mint ice cream from Justine's, made with fresh mint leaves and creme de menthe. A Lovely Memoir for an Unforgettable Place
I was so glad to have found this book eventually, being from Memphis and having worked at Justine’s after the restaurant had sold to another business. I spent long hours there hoping it’s once ornate and beautiful interiors would be fixed up properly and appreciated forever, only to see this historic building crumble slowly after that business closed too. The history of this place is hard to come by - thank goodness this book and its luscious photos, anecdotes, and recipes remain!Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
