El Cid - A Spectacular Among Epics
This film is a very good example of the true epic which is no longer being made. It is overly long and one often gets the feeling that both Charleton Heston and Sophia Loren do not have their hearts in it and cannot wait for certain scenes to be finished. A big-budget production with limitless funding such as this, particularly when co-produced in a foreign country (in this case, Italy) could very easily get out of hand and it is, sadly, what all too often occurs during this film. If the true epic is your cup of tea, you will love El Cid.
