I took up learning Spanish as a hobby, mostly through reading and watching Spanish programs on Netflix. With this approach, it doesn’t take long before you start noticing the surprising ways in which Spanish syntax differs from English syntax. Questions pile on, in a random order of complexity. This book will help elucidate anything you can throw at it. This is high resolution stuff. At this atomic level, the logic can get fuzzy, but the text never gets overwhelmed by the chaotic nature of its subject. The degree to which a given rule can be relying on is always stated and the ways in which it breaks are thoroughly detailed. It also gives out examples of positively incorrect constructions to solidify comprehension. Helpful too are the frequent juxtapositions with languages beyond English (French, Italian, Portuguese, German…). Access to this book is like having a resident Spanish grammar expert. A bargain.
