    Great for reading and rereading!

This is my third copy of this paperback book. I wore the others completely out! In this book you will overwinter with a new people in a multiple family setting near the continental ice sheet. You will experience a mammoth hunt and a bison hunt as if you were there. You will grow to love the characters as if they were your own family and learn what it is like to live in close quarters, snowed in, over an entire winter. The characters are unforgettable and when you finish the book, you will have to say goodbye to people that you have grown to love - until you reread the series again! This is the third book in the series. It will stand alone if you decide to start here, but I recommend starting with the first in the series - Clan of the Cave Bear. Your relationship with the main characters is ...

Book content great. Book not so much

The book was a second edition. Smaller than the first edition. Had an old odor. No jacket, stains on paper edges. Donating it to local library.

  • Be prepared to be amazed! Could you do what Ayla does?

This will be my third time reading this series! It's so awesome how Ayla and Jondalar adapt and survive in the wild. Jean Auel did so much historical research to write these books and every word should be revered! I cherish this series. I wish the story could go on forever. You'll never be sorry you read this series. As for the book itself. I bought this book because I only had the paperback and needed the hardback in this series.

  • Amazing ice age fiction

Love this book! First in a series of 6. It makes you get so absorbed and feel as though you are living in a time capsule!

  • An excellent read.

This novel is an excellent read, and being the third book in the series, a book that follows on very nicely from the second book, the valley of horses.
