    About this product

    Product Information

It was Sunday morning and the pavements were splashed with colour: piles of fuchsia dragon fruit, ripe green mangoes, scented white lilies, juicy yellow pineapples. Women strolling in floral pyjamas added to the kaleidoscopic effect. Amidst it all, people slurped their morning bowls of pho and drank gritty black coffee. No one took the slightest bit of notice of a foreigner on a pink moped. In spring 2013, adventurer Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent saddled up alone on her pink Honda C90 moped and set off from the cacophonous streets of Hanoi. From there she rode an epic 3,000 km through mud, deep sand, rivers and jungle on the Ho Chi Minh Trail through Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Travelling with very little mechanical know-how, Antonia visited lost pre-Khmer ruins, met remote tribes in Laos, battled along Cambodia's Mondulkiri Death Highway, and encountered some of the countless unexploded bombs that remain from the Vietnam War, seeing both the beauty and the great danger of the Ho Cho Minh Trail. AUTHOR: Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent, a veteran of ridiculous adventures in unfeasible vehicles, is co-author of the successful 'Tuk-Tuk to the Road'. Her articles have appeared in 'Wanderlust', 'The Guardian', 'Adventure Journal' (USA), 'Verge' (Canada) and 'Motorcycle Monthly', and she's also a regular speaker on the adventure travel circuit, speaking at the RGS, Adventure Travel Show and Wilderness Lectures. SELLING POINTS: Traversing the Ho Chi Minh Trail by motorbike has become very popular in the last decade, exemplified by Top Gear's Vietnam special The Honda C90 is a favourite of motorbike fans with millions of devotees the world over The author hopes to raise awareness of the vital work carried out by the Mines Advisory Group in Vietnam and beyond

      • A motorcycling historical record.

The author rides a small motorbike along parts of the Hi Chi Minh Trail used by North Vietnam forces to win the Vietnam War despite incessant American bombing raids. At times relating sadness and dismay at the violence at the time of the war and subsequent destruction of the valuable forest, Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent relates her triumphs and joys coping with the motorcycle to make this journey. The reader can enjoy the encounters with the people she meets along the way.
