    Excellent -especially for homeschoolers or anyone with curiosity & an attention span

    I would recommend this series for anyone above the age of 7 or who is curious about history, science, or is simply still in a stage of learning (hopefully that's everyone of all ages). It's calm and easy to understand. Fascinating. I would say it goes a little faster than the pace of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood

    Its ok...

    My child likes some of the DVDs but I think they all look the same to him and he’s not really interested...I feel that if they were of a different variety.. And then it’s kinda confusing because they use lower case letter in some and an L looks like an I etc..They would have the word “on” looking like a pig, the word combinations are way off...

    Like renewing an old friendship

    I watched this series on PBS in 1979 and was so fond of it that I recorded the reruns a year later. Those VHS tapes faded years ago, and it has been a real pleasure to revisit the episodes on my new permanent DVDs. James Burke is a remarkable story-teller, presenting in each episode a sequence of unrelated historical events that somehow merged into a surprising conclusion.

    Very well done, conceptually, though clearly dated. A very intelligent look at the circuitous route ideas and inventions take us. History has never been a straight line. I'd donate this to local schools if I thought they would show it.

    Burke at his peak

    Showing interconnectedness in the evolution of modern technology (circa the 1970s) that enlighten, surprise, and educate. This series was produced well before similar ideas entered mainstream writing and science journalism. Burke is hugely knowledgeable and erudite, and even if at times the connections may appear far-fetched they do not stray far from what may actually have taken place. It takes a fearless narrator like James Burke to bring drama to the history of technology. Everyone stands to learn, from high school students on. Burke's later series can be strained by comparison.
