About this product

Product Information

The Pentax Spotmatic 35 mm SLR Film Camera is a dependable, classic SLR camera that offers a vintage feel with the consistent reliability of a professional film camera. This Pentax camera was the first model to feature a through-the-lens light exposure system, making it a forerunner for generations of cameras to come. Amazingly, aside from the light meter, which is powered by a 1.35-volt battery, the inner workings of this SLR camera are entirely mechanical. Setting exposure on this Pentax camera is as easy as centering a needle to the right of the viewfinder, and keeping track of film is a snap with a counter mechanism on the right side of the body. Besides the light metering system, another aspect that helps set the Pentax Spotmatic apart is the versatility of the attachments. Lenses can easily be added or removed using a 42 mm Pentax/Praktica screw thread. The upshot is that this makes the Pentax Spotmatic incredibly diverse in terms of the lenses one can use with it. Most importantly, not only can a photographer use a variety of lenses, but also the results of shots won't disappoint either. Overall, for film enthusiasts who prefer classic feel to modern, digital photos, the Pentax Spotmatic is spot on.

  • As good as brand new!

The camera looks and feels as good as the Asahi Pentax Spotmatic F that I purchased in 1969 when I un-boxed that one. Haven't had a roll developed yet but I expect the negatives to come out fine, providing I haven't forgotten how to use the fully mechanical relic. ;-)

  • Product Review

I'm very pleased with the product. I managed to find a battery and was please to see that the meter reacted properly and gave me a usable shutter speed. I can't wait to drive a roll of film through it and see the results. I'm a collector more than a user but at some point, I've used almost all my old cameras just to put them through their paces and I fully expect this one will behave most satisfactorily.

  • Built Like a Tank, Great Buy if in Good Shape.

This camera is built like a tank, and is insanely sturdy. If you can get one in good shape, and give it a CLA (cleaning, lubrication, adjustment) it will work for many years to come. The Super Takumar lenses are legendary, and for very good reason, they deliver exceptional image quality, are made of all metal, and should withstand a nuclear blast. There are a few downsides though. For example, the light meter requires a battery that is no longer made, which can be problematic; alternatives exist, but without the specified batter the light meter will never work 100% the way that it was intended. Overall, I would recommend the Spotmatic to anyone looking for an honest all mechanical camera that will last for many years. I love my Spottie, and will for as long it will live, which is probably longer than me. Attached are some samples from the Spotmatic with a 55mm f1.8 Super Takumar.

  • "Classic SLR"

The Spotmatic is one of the true classics, it just feels so great in your hand's, and so easy to use. The Takumar lenses are superb so you are assured of first class results, the rest is up to you the photographer. I've been using Spotmatics since the late 1960's. This one in Black is a great addition to my collection as well as being a great user.

The mirror was sticking occasionally at low speeds but after firing the shutter a few times that was no longer an issue and honestly should be expected with any old Pentax camera. For its age the camera is in beautiful condition.

  • Pentax Spotmatic

The first time I held a Spotmatic was in 1969 when my boss bought one. He made me his photographer! I always enjoy taking his picture. In 1969 a Spotmatic was too expensive for me. Now after all these years I can finally afford one of my own. Yes it is 2021 and I’ve waited many years. Bought it for my 70th birthday.
