About this product

Product Information

Starring the comedy team of Dudley Moore and Peter Cook, BEDAZZLED puts a comic and sacrilegious twist on the Faust legend when a short-order cook named Stanley (Moore) who is in love with an oblivious waitress agrees to give his soul to the devil (Cook) in exchange for seven wishes. But the devil has a warped sense of humor, and Stanley's wishes never turn out the way he expects. As his chance to win the waitress's heart seems to recede further and further away, Stanley's wishes become stranger and more desperate.Though one of many comic films based on Faust, BEDAZZLED stands head and shoulders above the rest with its witty and intelligent screenplay by Peter Cook, hilarious performances by Moore and Cook that demonstrate just why they were such a marvelous comic duo, and the light but keen touch of director Stanley Donen.

  • Only good for ONE reason

This is a vastly over-rated movie. It's just not that funny. Dudley Moore has a small amount of rooting interest at first. but it just doesn't last. Peter Cook is bland, to be kind. Plus, the nunnery sequence drags on FOREVER. There's ONLY one reason to watch it/own it at all: the stunning Raquel Welch. Though it REALLY needed to have her in ALOT more scenes. Under-rated as both a comic AND dramatic actress, she saves what little there really is to this and is the sole reason I give it 4 stars instead of 1. If, however, you are intrigued by a war between god and the devil, I'd recommend "Spawn". And, if you want a REALLY good movie that questions God, rent or buy "Legion". This is just a mess. Thank God...and, since that's what the movie is really about anyway, God deserves His ...

  • Devilishly Funny!!

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore rule as the Devil and some poor schmuck who just wants to get the girl. If you appreciate British humor then you'll find this film Wicked Amusement. If you don't get British humor and think that the Python should have swallowed Monty -- you might want to give this a pass. On the subject of Monty Python; Peter and Dudley were part of the Beyond the Fringe comedy movement that preceded and basically was the cause for Python getting funding on the BBC. So if you like Python you'll likely be a fan of Bedazzled. Being a long time devotee of Peter and Dudley we have loved it forever and were very happy to finally add it to our library.

  • Dealing with the Devil Just Doesn't Work

Perhaps the most iconic picture ever made of the consequences of making a deal with the devil. Copying the humor layered over the morality play has been attempted but never achieved.
