Brigge. Dabei loest er sich von der Idee eines konventionellen Handlungsverlaufs. Die Tagebuchfragmente des autodiegetischen Erzahlers Malte sind weder kausal noch chronologisch miteinander verknupft, so dass keine stringente, paraphrasierbare Erzahlung entsteht. Die assoziativ miteinander verbundenen Aufzeichnungen schwanken zwischen Maltes Gegenwart in der unheilschwangeren Kulisse der Pariser Grossstadt, Szenen aus der Kindheit des Protagonisten und ins allgemein Historische reichende Reflexionen. Im Rahmen dieser Abhandlung soll der Themenkomplex des Spiritismus innerhalb der Aufzeichnungen in den Fokus der Aufmerksamkeit geruckt werden, denn die Poetik, die Rilke im Rahmen der Aufzeichnungen entwirft scheint in nicht geringem Masse durch das Ineinandergreifen asthetischer und spiritistischer Diskurse gepragt zu sein. Insbesondere neuere Forschungsergebnisse weisen auf den Einfluss okkulter Praxis und Axiomatik auf die programmatische Ausrichtung zahlreicher Maler und Autoren um die Jahrhundertwende hin. Um das Jahr 1900 ist die Verbindung zwischen Kunst und Medialitat ein weitverbreiteter Topos. Seine spezifische Auspragung erfahrt das zeitgenoessische Verstandnis kunstlerischer Medialitat jedoch durch seine gedankliche Nahe zum okkultistischen Diskurs. Dabei zeitigt die asthetische Adaption spiritistischer Theorie u.a. ein verandertes Bild des Kunstlersubjekts. Der Kunstler tritt an die Stelle des spiritistischen Mediums.
