About this product

Product Information

The uplifting true story. A Sunday Times bestseller, shortlisted for the Wainwright Prize The story of the couple who lost everything and embarked on a journey, not of escape, but salvation. Just days after Raynor learns that Moth, her husband of 32 years, is terminally ill, the couple lose their home and their livelihood. With nothing left and little time, they make the brave and impulsive decision to walk the 630 miles of the sea-swept South West Coast Path, from Somerset to Dorset via Devon and Cornwall. They have almost no money for food or shelter and must carry only the essentials for survival on their backs as they live wild in the ancient, weathered landscape of cliffs, sea and sky. Yet through every step, every encounter, and every test along the way, their walk becomes a remarkable journey. The Salt Path is an unflinchingly honest, inspiring and life-affirming true story of coming to terms with grief and the healing power of the natural world. Ultimately, it is a portrayal of home, and how it can be lost, rebuilt and rediscovered in the most unexpected ways.

  • MOVING, BEAUTIFULLY DESCRIPTIVE AND INSPIRING

The author Raynor Winn makes you evaluate what is important in your life and what isn't. Her narrative is moving, beautifully descriptive, her intense love of nature and an eye opener to a whole culture I knew very little about - wild camping. It is a love story - a battle to survive against everything life can throw at you. Having to face challenges without help - yet there is no self pity. I will read this book time and again because it has given me hope in a world that offers little compassion. Highly recommended.

  • Change your attitude story

Not my usual type of friend but it was one of those books that make you question you attitudes to other people and their lifestyle. What would I do.............. I will miss being part of this couples struggle and what would I have done to support them? I have shared the book.

  • The Salt Path

The book I received is in very good condition. I was looking for a good book, that's uplifting and inspiring. This book is also a true story which makes it more compelling, couldn't put it down. Have recommended it to family and friends. Thankfully there was sliver linings for Moth and Raynor, her story telling made for an enjoyable read. Have also read, The Wild Silence, which is just as compelling. Waiting to see the film of The Salt Path, a story needed to be told.

  • Brilliant book by author Raynor Winn

Great book. Who would have thought a book about a very long walk could be a page turner but it is. Love conquers all on this journey against the odds of the terrible physical illness of her husband Moth. Very well written and the South West Coast Path beautifully described. Got this for a friend but had to send it back cos damaged at source. Shame.

  • Wonderful

I thoroughly enjoyed this book following the true events. It must have been such a hard time for them which none of us are ever (thankfully) likely to have to endure. But, it seems to be a time of renewal and hope for them as well and having read it I felt uplifted. I would thoroughly recommend it. We read it in our book group and we all loved it and it provided a great discussion.

  • Compelling reading.

This is a compelling story and made so interesting when , like me , you are familiar with the coastline, and can visualize it. The courage of the couple forging ahead with the walk , when life has dealt them a raw deal is amazing, and I thoroughly recommend this account of their travels.
