It's a direct bolt in 90 amp Alternator replacement. When I bought my Galaxie three years ago, one of the main reasons I bought it was because of how original it was... how it didn't seem to be missing any parts. It had an original working generator charging system. About three months after I got the car going, the generator quit. It failed because of the dreaded thrown solder. I replaced it (and the regulator). The replacement lasted about one year, and died. I have no idea what when wrong. About a year after that, a third one failed because the rear bearing in the generator must have moved out of its correct location and it started banging and sparks were flying out the back. Each time, a rebuilt Generator and a NOS Regulator. I know generators quite well, and have the ability to ... It's a direct bolt in 90 amp Alternator replacement. Each time, a rebuilt Generator and a NOS Regulator. I know generators quite well, and have the ability to rebuild one, and I will do that to the last one that failed, but I promised myself to try one of the new Alternator replacements. To install the PowerGen PowerMaster 82101-2, it bolts in like the original generator. 1. It requires a change in the wiring, so I fabricated the recommended 8 AWG charge wire from the back of the alternator to the battery. 2. Reconnect the original charge wire from the regulator to the generator to the charge terminal also on the back of the new alternator. This wire provides power to the car. 3. Reconnect the F (field wire) to the terminal marked "Indicator Light". 4. It recommends a ground wire to be connected from the terminal marked "Ground" from that terminal to the engine block. I fabricated a ground wire to do that. 5. Disconnect all wires at the regulator. 6 Using a small nut and bolt, bolt the original charge (Black with Yellow Stripe) together and insulate that connection. 7. Using a small nut and bolt, bolt the original F Field wire (Black with White Stripe) to the Thin A Armature wire (Yellow with Black Stripe) and insulate it. This connection makes the "GEN" light on the dash work. There are two wires here, a thick and thin Yellow with Black Stripe. The thin one is the one you want to use. The thick one will be left disconnected. And that's it except for one thing... I found that my generator drive belt is now too long. With the original generator, it adjusted to about half way of the adjuster bracket, but the new PowerGen's drive pulley is 1/2" smaller in diameter than the original generator, so I will need to replace my fan belt with one 1" shorter. After being installed for 2 weeks now, all I can say it's an excellent product. Quiet. Powerful. Easy to install. A direct replacement that looks OEM. 5-STARS! -karl : )_

YOU WILL LOVE THIS ALTERNATOR
I love these. They are expensive but they look original and give you the electrical power you need for any high draw accessories. It also quickly recharges your battery so you don't have to drive as far to get you battery back to full charge. I want one of these on EVERY one of my vintage vehicles. I have 4 so far and will replace the other three as I can budget it.

looks "almost" like the original.
Relatively easy replacement of my old and tired generator for my 1963 Falcon. The wiring instructions are incomplete and you need to do your homework... But no more nightmare with the old voltage regulator as it is by-passed! This unit seems to do its job, but under load, like folding the convertible top, there is a light whine coming from this alternator. I hope it is normal, time will tell!
