In dies em Buch ist der Stand der Analytischen Chemie des Mangans fUr die Zeit- spanne von 1940 bis Anfang 1984 unter Beriicksichtigung von mehr a1s 2100 Litera- turstellen dargestellt. Vereinzelt sind, wo dies fUr den StoffUberb1ick niitz1ich er- schien, einige altere Literaturstellen einbezogen worden. Die Stoffbearbeitung ist praxisbezogen und setzt die Kenntnis der Grundlagen der behandelten Analysenmethoden voraus. Demnach wird auf eine eingehende Dar- stellung theoretischer und apparativer Grundlagen sowie auf die Beschreibung von Geraten der einzelnen Analysenmethoden verzichtet, urn den begrenzten Rahmen dieses Buches nicht zu sprengen. Allgemeine Hinweise werden nur soweit gegeben, als sie fUr die praktische Anwendung der einzelnen Analysenmethoden zweckmal3ig erscheinen. Abweichend davon wird lediglich bei der Plasmaspektrometrie auf allge- meine Grundlagen sowie wesentliche apparative und praktische Details der Me- thode in kurzgefal3ter Form naher eingegangen, da iiber diese noch relativ junge Analysenmethode zusammenfassende Darstellungen bis jetzt noch nicht in ausrei- chendem Mal3e zur VerfUgung stehen. Bei den Analysenvorschriften der Multiele- ment-Methoden sind neben den fUr Mangan spezifischen Angaben auch die notwen- digen Daten der mitbestimmten anderen Elemente mitangefUhrt, da dies fUr das Ver- standnis und die Anwendung der Analysenverfahren zweckmal3ig erscheint. Den Fachkollegen danke ich fUr die Unterstiitzung in Form von Sonderdrucken, Dokumentationen und Analysenvorschriften. Dem Herausgeber, Herrn Prof. Dr. W.
