Product Information

After catching his mother and her boyfriend "in flagrante delicto" and dispatching both of them with a farm implement known as a sling blade, a simpleminded 11-year-old boy is sent to a mental hospital where he spends the next 25 years. Upon his release, the emotionally and mentally stunted man-child returns to his Arkansas hometown and takes a job in a local garage, only to have the past inexorably repeat itself. An indie-film triumph, adapted by star-writer-director Thornton from his 1993 short, "Some Folks Call It a Sling Blade." Academy Award Nominations: 2, including Best Actor--Billy Bob Thornton. Academy Awards: Best Adapted Screenplay.

    This is the version to get! (NOT the "dierctor's cut")

    Sure, the "director's cut" of many movies on DVD sounds appealing, but in this case the additional footage completely messes up the pacing and flow of the movie, and even saps away some of its magic. It seems pretty clear that director (and writer, actor) Billy Bob Thornton wanted to take this chance to make it up to the people who were good enough to be in his low-budget indie film only to wind up on the cutting room floor, by re-inserting them back into the film. But don't fall for it. This is the version that was shown in the theaters, the one we all fell in love with. If you find it, grab it. The movie is a straight-up masterpiece.
