Pop joy like they don't make any more
Lush, melodic, intelligent, literate and highly arranged pop songs about love, death, Elvis, Jesse James, God and the devil: what's not to like? Paddy McAloon put so much into the Prefabs' masterpiece (needless to say, hardly anyone bought it) that it took them seven years to release another album. Even The Blue Nile made their great records at a faster rate than that! A must cd for all aspiring musicians and music lovers.
Great album full of originality.One of the worlds great songwriters.One of Prefabs best albums.Machine gun Ibiza and Moondog being among the 2 most original pieces of music I have heard for some time.Jordan the Comeback,the title track is also unique and nostalgic.19 tracks in total offering excellent value for a quality album.

Not a single bad track!
It tends to be that you either like Prefab Sprout or hate them. While I can understand people who might find Paddy McAloon's songs a little bit too clever, sentimental and a bit fey, I think that these are actually his strengths and I believe he is a genuinely great songwriter that merits comparison with the very, very best (that means you, Mr Dylan!). For someone who doesn't know their music, it is hard to describe but I would class it as simply 'pop music' and the Thomas Dolby production on this is fantastic too. I can't pick out any particular tracks because they are genuinely all good. If you like clever, well-constructed and lyrically rich music then this is for you and genuinely deserves 5* rating.It tends to be that you either like Prefab Sprout or hate them.
