True: It is worth its price. It handles well. The VR works fine. You might need to rise the iso value, sometimes. False: You'd either use it at 70 or 300 mm. Quality is bananas. It's a portrait lens. I'm a severe and boring person so I believe there's no much need to go beyond 85 mm. Notwithstanding a lens like this gives one a chance to follow up with some particular tasks (animals, amateur sports) and to "crop" some interesting human details in the streets. It works much better in full light. Good value. Buy it: If you think don't need such a lens. If you wonder whether you need a long lens or not, at a decent price you'll get the chance to use your imagination to work out what it can be used for. Don't buy: If you exactly know what you need a long lens for. Get some something more specific.Read full review
Very good lens for a reasonable price. Pros: good price, well build. VR. Good zoom range. VERY sharp. Cons: the VR is actually not THAT helpful (or maybe my particular sample has a problem). It's hard to make a steady shot with a shutter speed lower than 150/1 sec. The zooming ring has a bit "sticky" feeling, so it might be hard to catch a particular focal length. The focusing ring has a plastic movement feeling, but it doesn't really affect shooting. It can suit for a basic macro shooting, but the minimal focus distance might have been closer. The lens is rather dark, but that's what you get for a price. Overal, great product. definitely, recommend for a landscape or general purpose photography. For sports go for a bigger aperture.

very good telezoom objective, that wits DX as well as FX Bodies. It therefore can be used also for KB-negative cameras with a comopatible bajonett and electronic measuring. The AF is much better that e.g. the one of the new 55-300 DX lens and the VR allows for perfectly shard shots in situations with lesser light. The additional weight (compared to the new Nikon 55-300) pays of, as the technical gear Nikon used for this lens seems to be of much higher quality.
very good lens. A bit heavy but still ok, the VR isn't as effective as claimed especially at the longer focal values but it still is very useful. AF speed is very decent mounted on a D7000, the hood is very effective. Optical quality is excellent. Excellent sharpness, no distorsion, almost no vignetting and no fringes, really good lens, worth it's price in every aspect ! far better than the 70-300 made by sigma especially on the sharpness and af speed the aperture is a bit too small for indoor sport shooting but the lens remains usable nontheless, the bigger issue being the depth of field, in no way comparable with what can be obtained with a 70-200/2.8 but hey, that's absolutely not the same price range !
After testing the lens I have to say its very sharp and autofocus is very quick a good bargain!
