In a nutshell this car is a riot! The performance is borderline diabolical. After playing with other brushed (motor) entry level cars, thought this would be a "reasonable" step up. It put me on terms with it's power and speed. It far exceeded expectations. And simply out powers anything else I've driven. Keep in mind, this is my first "real" performance RC car. Happy? YES. The chassis is standardized (HSP i'm told) with many available upgrade and replacement parts at reasonable prices. Unless one is an expert and avoids crashing, expect to start wrenching on the car. My first moments on pavement was a close call. Partly due to the smaller knobby tires and mediocre factory suspension setup. The high power will push the front end, to no end on pavement. Not much better in the dirt in tighter turns. I put a a fair amount of toe-in and negative camber on the front/ the rear is only camber. Much better. One nitpick is the right rear has a lot of toe-in, more than I would want (left is OK). Switching control arms may solve this. Not a per se problem, but it's evidence of being built to a price point. The car is so fast that a throttle trim to control output would be very helpful. Go easy on the throttle and it's fine but sensitive. Another odd effect, perhaps of the brushless motor, is at stop or if stuck, there is almost no torque and requires full throttle. Acts like a dead battery. Once moving the power comes on fast again. Throttle back as the power builds and it's fine, but counter intuitive. Reminds me of driving a modern turbo car- waiting for the boost, then lifting off to modulate torque delivery. Keep the car moving and it's no problem on flat surfaces. Another quirk is the outdated round banana plug battery connectors. Apparently the Traxxas square plugs are more of a standard. The new battery purchased comes with them (got a 5AH). Required buying a connector plug kit to change the car and stock battery. It's on the To-Do list. Time to solder. One more annoying quirk: the steering bell crank heavily contacts the shell on full left lock. A simple cut out solves the annoyance. There is an obvious difference in left to right steering angle at full lock. Not an issue while driving at speed and perhaps just noticeable at low speed or starting out. Again, another thing that to me points at being built to a price point. If large tires are used, tight turning will cause the shell to grind on the tires. In our case the car would flip driving in grass. Problem now solved. For fun put on a set of large off road tires. Works great for zipping thru lawns. Plenty of power and would say it's even faster accelerating. The car will actually wheelie! AND on the stock battery. I could only give it full throttle for a few seconds-- 35-40mph, even in a very big yard. Our thoughts were the bigger tires are a better choice all around. Minor body clearancing needed on the front as noted. In terms of hardware this RTR package is solid and balanced, right down to the very good battery (3.7AH Li-po). The radio control feels natural with more than adequate range. No problems at about 200 feet, could likely go further. Avoid heavy crashes or tumbles and it'll do fine. As others have mentioned the shock towers do bend. The wing seems to be the main culprit being mounted to the towers. Might be better to learn the car w/o it. Of course all the parts are replaceable and upgradeable. One of the reasons I bought this model. Cheap to get into something fun, but can keep it going when things break due to my fault. Be sure to snug down the phillips screws before too long. The front hub screws were becoming loose ("ball joint" connections). Dynamite makes a nifty cheap tool set with all the attachments. I normally play with full size, expensive and powerful toys. It's great fun to tinker with something small for a change that has similar working fundamentals. My neighbor liked it so much he bought one also. Time do dual! Update: after owning for awhile have learned a few things. The chassis seems to act as a "crumple" zone in moderate impacts. Surprisingly have not broken A-arms, but have ruined the shock strut mounts and wing mount. In addition to the chassis which was upgraded to an aluminum one. Not sure if that was the right choice. It bent after hitting a car tire. Had to take it all apart to straighten. The plastic tray may be more durable afterall. Handling has a major flaw in that it torque steers- BADLY. Altering spring pre-load helps, but there's simply too much power for the chassis to handle. Bigger truck tires help and are a good match to manage the power. Steering is a challenge overall, partly due to the loose linkage. Thankfully everything can be replaced with alloy bits. The battery terminals are non standard and require changing them for any other battery. Overall the car spends more time being fixed than driven. Still a fun toy!Read full review

For around $200 the redcat tornado is a great buggy. We have a RC track in our backyard with some big jumps, and the tornado has held up great even after a hundred crashes. The 4 wheel drive makes it easy to pilot even in loose dirt. The 3300kv motor has tons of power to launch this car and the electronics seem to work well. This is a great package to start with, but you will want to upgrade the charger.

Great value for this RTR buggy with the features of a buggy 3 times the price. Fast , handles great and can take a beating. Upgrade the wheels and tires and you got and Awesome buggy. The trickle charger that comes with it sucks so plan on getting a fast charger and some extra batteries so you can keep the fun going. I would highly recommend this for a beginner looking the get it RCing on a budget . Redcat has a great line of upgrade parts .

I have been running redcat since 2007. I've had a variety of vehicles. This is definitely in my top 5 favorites for sure. I have friends with 2 and 3 speed nitro vehicles that are pretty fast but when I use the 5000mah 11.1v 3s 60c lipo I smoke all of them. The best part is after our bashing all I have to do is unplug and charge the battery, they have to clean up the exhaust residue that makes the dirt stick, add after run oil and put up the fuel-starting equipment. I'm usually waiting for an extra 20 minutes for those guys. The parts are readily available for decent prices and if you actually drive it without smashing a curb your not going to have to replace anything. In a nutshell I'd say buy one and have some fun.

Easy to charge, speed is ballistic Shocks could need some oil and different springs for jumping but the motor and speed control are great for this price. A fun basher with good race potential. I added a light bar behind the front bumper for night racing. Crashed it a few times and it never blinked. Bounced back like a champ. about 20 min runtime with the current electronics. Definitely upgradeable for insane speed.
