  • Great upgrade for an aging LGA1366 battlestation!

    Like many others I built my workstation during the 1st generation i7 days. I'm now got multiple 1366 machines in my house using then as workstations for myself and my wife for our development work. I've owned i7-920, i7-930, and i7-950 processors. After maxing the ram in my workstation at 48gb, upgrading the gfx card, and building a multi-ssd raid 0 array on an LSI card; the processor was the last possible place to squeeze more performance out of an aging system. I can tell you there is a noticeable difference in multi-tasking performance moving from the i7-950 @ 4.0ghz to this X5680 @ 4.0ghz. I originally was able to get it stable at 4.6ghz without pushing the voltage up too much, but figured I'd lean toward longevity. It's true the 1366 platform has aged and is on it's last leg.
