I have always been a fan of Criterion's editions, ever since I first got some of thier laserdisc versions many years ago, with "Blade Runner" and "Halloween" being the first two. On that note I have also liked Brian De Palma'a films, "Carrie" being one of them, and an edition I also own from Criterion on laserdisc. With "Sisters" I was not at all disappointed with the DVD version, like a lot of Criterion's releases the picture quality is very good, and the sound, although dated also is quite pleasing. The special features, another thing that Criterion is usually great at, are limited to text based material, which is a little disappointing. There is a great article written by De Palma, in which he describes his first meeting with the late great composer Bernard Herrmann, who is famous for working with Alfred Hitchcock on films such as "Vertigo", "North By Northwest" and "Psycho", and whose last score was for Scorsese's film "Taxi Driver". De Palma is clearly a director who is influenced by Hitchcock, something he is sometimes criticized for as well(for some accuse him of ripping off Hitch's films), and having Herrmann do the score for this film really fits, and you feel the tension rise in a film that would probably be dull without it. If you like the suspense thrillers that Hitch was so well known for, than De Palma's "Sisters" is worthy edition for your DVD collection.Read full review
