This classic romantic comedy introduced Audrey Hepburn to audiences as a modern-day princess. Stifled by her royal entourage on a trip to Rome, Hepburn's Princess Ann escapes to explore the Italian city on her own. While incognito, she falls in love with an American newspaperman, Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck). When Bradley learns of Ann's true identity, he finds himself torn between following his nose for news--and turning her into a big story--or the growing affections of his heart. A hit in 1953, ROMAN HOLIDAY won Hepburn an Academy Award for Best Actress, and was also notable for its Oscar-winning story by then-blacklisted Dalton Trumbo (credited as Ian McLellan Hunter).

    What is a princess doing asleep on a street bench in Rome, Italy?

    This delightful, older DVD is exceptionally well acted, especially by Audrey Hepburn, the princess, who breaks out of her royal constraints for a Roman escapade. This is comical, nearly family viewing, except for young children. Teens and adults of every age can smile at the iconic Roman, unexpected scenes. I thought the early staircase choreography was beautifully done. Light, but not frivolous content made this enjoyable viewing, and fully recommended for classic movie buffs.

    Audrey Hepburn's Best Classic Movies

    Breakfast at Tiffany's and Roman Holiday are vintage romantic comedies. At times its's so charming, and 1950's sophisticated. The fashion's all make a huge statement. Some scenes make you laugh and then cry for no reason. Audrey Hepburn is young, slim, and just drop dead gorgeous. I would highly recommend these movies.
