A series of interesting far flung locales with 2 very watchable characters
This series is a roller coaster ride of peeks into Englands bucolic landscapes with peeks at the hurly burly of London, ancient Manor houses & the Aristocrats who maintain in some cases a very shaky facade, the rawness of the underbelly of industrial cities & the people who reside & survive in locales one rarely gets to see. A credit to BBC
I should start out by confessing I've never read the books. I became hooked on the series through local PBS programming. I missed a number of shows, and with PBS scheduling (one good thing, one time, no exceptions), I decided to spend the money for the entire series,1-4; glad I did, not only is each episode a gem in of itself, but the lead-ins by Diana Rigg, and the additional material on the DVD's make it worth the price alone. I have limited hearing, but the set I received is subtitled in four or five languages in addition to English, and I make out very well.I should start out by confessing I've never read the books. Having watched a few of the Inspector Lynley Mysteries on PBS, I just had to have them all. The aristocratic Inspector and his assistant DS Havers are perfect foils for each other. He is Lord Asherton -- arrogant, handsome and tempermental. She is dowdy, working-class, and smart. The mysteries are great who-dun-its that keep you guessing til the end. These are not action-packed movie theater type shows, but old-fashioned well written mysteries. I can't get enough of them! Inspector Lynley
I started reading the books by Elizabeth George and quickly became a devoted fan. When I learned that some of the books had been made into movies in Britain, I was anxious to see how they had fared. I saw one episode on PBS and knew I wanted to see the others. I have now shared Elizabeth George's books with friends and we all plan to have an Inspector Lynley marathon while on our beach vacation.
