This book is a fantastic references for China painters. It is a hardcover book with dustjacket by Ruth Little. The book is 291 pages and is illustrated with lots of lovely color and black and white illustrations. It's almost like owning a whole bunch of studies, but better, because the instructions go into a lot of detail and cover general topics as well as specific design issues. Chapters in the book include: Supplies kilns firing preparing colors and the palette brush strokes making a color chart color design design modification backgrounds gold lustre enamels raised paste matt colors wild roses small roses roses pansies violets grapes strawberries blackberries pine cones acorns petits motifs dinner sets antique china point system painting on stencil paper how to mend china hydrofluoric acid flux glaze definitions originality how to start a class painting for profit letter to the husband of a china painter firing chart The author is knowledgeable and her book is lovely. Her painting style is typical of what you'd see on antique china; it's very pretty. Her instructions are clear and easy to read, although the book is not as good as having lessons from a teacher in person would be. I think the book is best used as a supplement to actual classes with a teacher. However, if you want to learn the art of china painting and you don't have access to a teacher, this book is a good choice.Read full review
