Good research and guide books are worth their weight in gold. This one is no exception. I first looked at it when I was at the CMP and learned so much valuable information I had to have it. This book thouroghly breaks down every weapon in an easy to follow manner, and explains everything from the stock markings to the way particular companies made different parts and when. The book also includes valuable original pictures of the Soldiers and Mariens using these particular weapons. An invaluable book.
This was a good book. Much interesting information and photos, however I felt it did not give as much detail as I needed on more common M1 carbines and M1 Garands. Author seemed more interested in the more rare and unusual types. This book tries to cover everything briefly but not in the detail I need. I felt for M1 carbines, the better book for identifing specific parts was JC Harrison's book, collecting The M1 Carbine III.
This hardback book is filled with numerous illustrations, historic photos, and great stories of these historic weapons. There are interesting stories of the development and use of these weapons, some by veterans who employed these very weapons in combat. Great as a cover to cover read or simply as a coffee table book. I spent hours just reading through all the captions under the illustrations and photos when I first got it (did I mention I like pictures).
Great book for the enthusiast or collector. Much detailed information.
