It's not clear in the pic but it's a laminate with a wood grain pattern that's looks like it's stained blue, so that was a pleasant surprise. Putting it together was a bit tricky to begin with, and you need a 2nd pair of hands for some of it. Pretty sturdy. I'm very happy with it.

I accepted a 50% refund & found a back of an old office chair that fitted the existing bracket supplied with the chair however it wasn’t of the same material as the new chair that made it easy clean for its intended use in a medical clinic!
